Michael Golden named Best Lawyers® 2020 Santa Fe Family Lawyer of theYear

Michael Golden named Best Lawyers® 2020 Santa Fe Family Lawyer of theYear

August 15th 2020: For the second time in four years, Michael Golden has been chosen as Best Santa Fe Family Lawyer of the Year by Best Lawyers. This honor marks the fifth time since 2012 that a WBMH attorney has been recognized as being at the top of the field.

The honor is particularly satisfying, since it is based on peer review. Best Lawyers uses a process designed to capture the consensus opinion of local lawyers about the professional abilities of their colleagues. To be named Lawyer of the Year means Golden’s professional colleagues rated him highest overall for a family lawyer in Santa Fe.

Golden has been practicing family law for over 40 years, 31 of which were as partner at Moore & Golden. His career has spanned all aspects of family law, but Golden’s preferred work is in alternative dispute resolution. Golden joined WBMH in 2016, of counsel, to continue this work in financially complex cases. Along with his WBMH colleagues, Golden focuses on family law cases in which financial or geographic complexities require the highest level of family law competence.

Golden and WBMH partners David Walther and Sarah Bennett were also selected by their peers for inclusion in the 2020 edition of Best Lawyers in America, a distinction all three have earned year after year.

WBMH serves New Mexico and out-of-state clients from offices located at 123 E. Marcy Street, Suite 205, in Santa Fe, New Mexico. For more information, please visit www.wbmhlaw.com or contact Amber Macias-Mayo at 505-795-7117.

December 14th, 2018 Sarah Bennett has received the prestigious Martindale-Hubbell AV Preeminent Special Edition Judicial Award.

Santa Fe, December14th, 2018/Press Release – In August, Sarah Bennett was named Best Lawyers® Santa Fe Family Law Lawyer of the Year. It was her second time being honored as Lawyer of the Year in seven years. Last week, she received the prestigious Martindale-Hubbell AV Preeminent Special Edition Judicial Award. It’s been quite a year.

Martindale-Hubbell published its first Law Directory in 1868. Despite new competitors in the field, Martindale-Hubbell’s ratings remain the gold standard in the legal profession. The peer review-based AV Preeminent Rating is an outstanding achievement and according to Martindale-Hubbell, demonstrates that a lawyer has earned the highest possible ratings available for legal and professional ethics. Bennett now adds the Judicial Edition Rating, a distinction based not on peer review, but on the confidential opinions of members of the Judiciary.

This recognition comes at the height of Bennett’s forty+ year career, the last fifteen of which have been as a board-certified Family Law Specialist. In that capacity, she has been instrumental in broadening the practice in New Mexico to include collaborative practice and to refine it as a member of the Supreme Court Domestic Relations Rules Committee.

In 2017, Bennett joined forces with David Walther, Amber Macias-Mayo and Morgan Honeycutt to form WBMH Law. Along with her WBMH partners, Bennett currently focuses on complex family law cases in which financial, geographic or case-specific complexities require the highest level of competence. WBMH
serves New Mexico and out-of-state clients from offices located at 123 E. Marcy Street, Suite 205, in Santa Fe, New Mexico.

WBMH celebrates a successful first year

WBMH celebrates a successful first year

May 5th, 2018 Although the WBMH partners all have years of experience in family law, May 1st marked the one year anniversary of the attorneys joining forces as WBMH.

– In 2013, David Walther came out of retirement to focus on his passion for complex family law. He formed David Walther Law to represent clients whose divorces involved issues not seen in typical divorces, including complex
finances, custodial issues or multiple geographies. It was a gamble: concentrating all your firm’s efforts on an unproven market niche always is. But it was a niche Walther felt could be better served by a law firm formed to effectively interface not only with the client, but with the teams of CPAs, financial advisors and estate planners, in state and out, that typically are part of a complex divorce as well.

David Walther Law started out with Walther’s deep experience in family law as the firm’s key asset. In the early days, he operated out of shared office space and had only a part-time office assistant. His strategy was sound and the practice grew. Within a year, he had brought on another lawyer, Amber Macías-Mayo, to ensure the firm could handle the ever-increasing workload. Veteran family lawyer Michael Golden joined the firm, of counsel, a year later.

Across town, another exceptionally experienced family lawyer, Sarah Bennett, was teaming with Morgan Honeycutt to build a high-end family law practice at Rothstein Donatelli. Also dealing with complex finances and custody cases, Bennett and Honeycutt brought collaborative skills as well as litigation and mediation to their family law practice.

Then, somebody had a great idea: merger. The complex cases both firms were taking on called for specific expertise, a highly efficient and capable back office, forward-thinking technology and a very high level of customer service. Bringing together the lawyers already concentrating on this market segment seemed to make a lot of sense.

It did.

Last Friday, Walther Bennett Mayo Honeycutt P.C., the firm formed by the merger, celebrated its first anniversary with an open house and birthday party. The party drew a host of community professionals to congratulate WBMH on a successful year. And what a success! WBMH is now one of the largest firms dedicated to family law in New Mexico. With a head count of legal professionals and staff of 14, WBMH has come a long way since the early days of David Walther’s vision.
